Time To Clean Your Makeup Drawer
As you begin cleaning throughout your house, what areas do you tend to focus on the most? Do you spend more time in the kitchen? How about the bathroom? Maybe it’s time to give your carpets a deep clean? These are great places to clean, but there is something that tends to be forgotten amongst the clutter in your home: the makeup drawer. Surely you have a place you keep all of your makeup, but do you know when it’s time to clean it up and throw some things out? It’s important to understand that there are things you don’t want to keep in there for too long. Not only can they be a big mess, but they can also cause you some harm.
At The Maids Murrieta, our team is dedicated to making sure you understand what to do to clean up your makeup drawer and when to throw items out. Even going into the drawer, if not organized, can be a task nobody wants to tackle. However, it’s in your best interests to take the time and do things right so you can organize your makeup drawer with the right items to keep. You’ll have a cleaner drawer and you won’t have to worry about anything going wrong health-wise. Our Dallas maids provide you some tips on when to throw makeup out and how you can organize everything perfectly.
When to Throw Your Items Out
Your makeup drawer is probably full of the many different items that you use each and every day. From mascara, to eyeliner, to lipstick, to sponges, some people take these items and just toss them into their drawer. Even worse, they forget about these items for months and sometimes try to use them again after all that time. This is not something you should do. Rather, you should throw these items out every so often to make sure you keep yourself safe.
- Mascara should be tossed out of the drawer every three months. After this long, the mascara will become dried up anyway, but the tubes can also be a resting spot for bacteria, and use after this long can cause an eye infection.
- Concealer should be thrown away after a year or a year and a half because it can start to turn, and the risk of transferring bacteria increases. The more you use a brush or sponge, the longer the life of the concealer.
- Lipstick will only be good for about a year until the preservatives begin to break down. You may notice that the bullet is starting to form small beads or the surface is getting hard. This is a good indicator to throw it away.
- Nail polish can be thrown out after a year. At this time, the chemicals in the product will begin to degrade and you may notice it changing colors, thickening, getting harder, and drying out. This will make it more difficult to apply.
- Makeup sponges are good to toss after a month. This is if you keep up the cleaning and washing them after every time you use them. If you don’t wash them every time, you should throw out sponges after each use.
- Lip gloss should be thrown away after about 6 months to a year to avoid bacteria build up. Some other types of lip gloss, such as those in a squeeze tube, may last longer because the risk of bacteria is smaller.
- Foundation is good for about up to a year. If you use your fingers to apply the foundation, this can increase the risk of bacteria building up. You will notice after a year, though, that the consistency and color will change.
Organizing Your Makeup Drawer
In a number of cases, some people just fill their drawer with their makeup using no organization whatsoever. They take their item out, use it, put it back, and close the drawer without a second thought. This works for a lot of people, but it’s also important to organize your drawer to make sure you know what you have, what’s new, and what needs to be thrown out. It is important to take the time and organize everything if you can, and one of the best ways to do that is to put an additional piece in the drawer such as a utensil holder.
While you will normally find these in the kitchen holding your forks, spoons, and knives, they can be perfect for separating each of your makeup items and keeping them organized. You can use the different slots for each of your products and color coordinate if necessary. This will also provide the extra incentive to keep your drawer clean and put your makeup back in its proper spot.
