Sick of Cleaning? Let Us Help!

How Do I Clean My Dishwasher?

Dishwashers make everyone’s lives easier – who has the time to work through a pile of dirty dishes when you could just stick them in this wonderful machine, press a few buttons, and within an hour or so have a sparkling set of dishware? Even though their sole job is to get everything you put inside clean, dishwashers can collect grime and mold from bits of food that don’t quite make their way out, which is why we’ve put together this list of tips to help you clean your dishwasher and get it back to (almost) factory-fresh shape.

What You Need

  • Toothbrush
  • Dish soap
  • Measuring cup
  • White vinegar
  • Baking soda

Once you’ve gathered the gear you need, it’s time to get down to business.

  1. Clean the Filter: The filter’s main job is to collect the junk that runs off your dishes, and over time it’ll run out of places to hold any more. They’re usually found at the base of the dishwasher, so unscrew it and let it soak in warm and soapy water for around 10 or so minutes. If you notice any leftover particles, gently scrub them away with the toothbrush – be careful not to damage this fragile part of your dishwasher! Once you’re done, screw it back in and move on to the next step.
  2. Add Vinnegar: Pour a cup of vinegar out into your dishwasher and run a heavy clean cycle to help clean and deodorize your dishwasher.
  3. Thrown in the Baking Soda: To take care of any remaining nasty smells, fill your measuring cup with some baking soda – about a cup will do the trick, and sprinkle it out into your dishwasher. You can either let it sit through the night or, if you start your clean in the morning, let it sit for 10-12 hours throughout the day. Once it’s ready, run your dishwasher through an empty cycle.
  4. Scrub Off Anything That’s Left: If you’re satisfied with the cleanliness of your dishwasher, then your job is done! However, grime and gunk can collect in the various nooks and crannies around your machine, including under the arms and in the door seal. Break out the toothbrush and use either a water and baking soda paste or a bit of soapy water to scrub away anything that’s left.

And that’s it! Now that your dishwasher’s clean and ready to be used again, it’s time to turn to the rest of your house. Whether you’re worried that you don’t have enough time to do a great clean all by yourself or if you just want to call in some backup, our team of professionals at The Maids Murrieta are ready to give you a hand and make sure that we leave your home spotless and the clean envy of the entire neighborhood.
